About CMRT
The Canadian Motorsports Response Team (CMRT) is a specialized volunteer organization providing professional medical, fire and rescue response for motorsport events across Canada.
Â
Our team brings together experienced firefighters, paramedics, physicians and other emergency professionals who share a commitment to motorsport safety. CMRT members bring extensive experience from their respective professions and receive additional training focused on the unique hazards, vehicles and safety systems found in modern motorsport.
Â
Our Story
CMRT was founded in 2010 by Dr. Robert Seal and Bruce MacDonald in response to the increasingly specialized demands of motorsport emergency response.
Â
As race vehicles became faster and driver protection systems more advanced, they recognized the need for a team specifically trained to work within the racing environment. Experienced emergency professionals from across Canada were brought together to develop what would become the Canadian Motorsports Response Team.
Â
Since then, CMRT has provided medical and rescue services at some of Canada's most prominent motorsport events, while continuing to evolve alongside advances in racing and driver safety.
One Team
Effective motorsport response depends on different disciplines working together.
CMRT integrates medical, fire and rescue personnel into a coordinated response team, allowing each member to bring their professional expertise while operating within a common set of motorsport-specific procedures and priorities.
Â
Whether responding trackside, operating from a rescue truck or supporting an in-field medical facility, the objective remains the same: provide drivers with a professional, coordinated and effective emergency response when they need it most.
Advancing Motorsport Safety
CMRT's role extends beyond event response. Our members contribute to training, education and the continued development of motorsport emergency response practices.
Â
We continue to learn from the broader motorsport and emergency response communities and adapt our training and procedures as vehicles, technology and safety systems evolve.
Our focus is simple: be prepared, work as one team, and provide the highest standard of emergency response possible in the motorsport environment.
